Eduardo Ponsdomenech
combines his experience in the entertainment industry with his extensive
training in music to create scores for film, television and theater.
The son of Cuban immigrants, Eduardo grew up listening to the sounds and rhythms of Latin music. He began formal studies at the age of five in San Antonio, Texas, studying piano, theory and composition with Julliard-graduate Emmett Vokes. At the age of ten, he won his first statewide piano competition. He then attended The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, where he continued his music and theatrical training. Jazz master David Sermersheim provided him with a solid background in improvisation and composition. Choir Master Roger Claiborne introduced him to choral arrangement and further studies in classical piano.
As an undergraduate at Yale University (B.A. Theater Studies), he wrote and performed music for stage and film and studied with renowned composer Anthony Davis. He acted in a variety plays, performing the title role in "Hamlet," and leading roles in "Chicago," "Cabaret," and "Roscencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," among others. He also studied theater in London at RADA and LAMDA and New York's Circle in the Square.
After graduation, Eduardo got his feet wet in NYC and L.A. as an actor, story analyst, post production coordinator, agent's assistant,casting assistant and actor's liaison. While working as an assistant to actors Christopher Walken and later Judd Hirsch, he began composing and editing music for TV and film. He decided to attend the University of Miami School of Music, where he earned his Master of Music degree from the department of Media Writing and Production.
U.M. provided a forum for the premiere of his orchestral works "The Legend of Ubar" and "Taino Overture" as well as the performance of compositions for a variety of ensembles, ranging from jazz trios to big bands. After graduating, he moved back to Los Angeles. He's been composing music for tv and film since his arrival (see SCORING and EDITING for credits.)
In 1997, he formed Ed Pons Music, Inc. (EPMI) to provide music services to the industry. Since then, he has worked on the shows "Akeelah and the Bee," "The Guardian," Shaun Cassidy’s "Invasion," "Sabrina The Teenage Witch," David Mamet’s "The Unit,"" Gossip Girl", and many others. He has been a guest lecturer at the American Film Institute, the University of Miami, and Cal State Fullerton.
Eduardo's interest in the theater has not diminished over the years. He's written the musical "L.A. TAO" with book and lyrics by Dylan Brody. He provided electronic arrangements for the pre-Broadway run of "The Unified Field". In Los Angeles, he has composed music for "An Honest Ending" (Dorothy Lyman's A Directors' Theater), "Breath" (The Second Stage), and "Transformations of a Moron" (The Hudson Theater.)
Eduardo uses his intuitive understanding of tone and nuance to produce passionate, exciting and innovative music.
